How to String a Bass Guitar- Step 5

Clean Up Your Fretboard

Wipe frets and fretboard clean

After you have removed your bass strings it’s a good idea to wipe down your fretboard and your frets since you have easy access to them. Rub the gunk off of each fret. It can get pretty gross around the frets. You can also dust off all the other usually inaccessible places.

Slippery String Slots

Lubricate the nut

This is optional, but I always like to do it when I string a bass. Using a graphite pencil, rub a little graphite around each string slot. Graphite is a very slippery substance. This will allow your string to glide up and down the slot smoothly and avoid some bass tuning issues.
