Bass Exercises: Octaves

Octaves Exercises

Bass Exercise #1: Chromatic Octaves on A-String

This is just like exercise 1, but on the A-string. Pay attention to muting notes on the A-string when you pluck on the G-string.

Bass Exercise #2: Octaves on G-C-G-D

In this example you follow each root with its higher octave. Using different octaves is a very simple and common technique for adding a little variety to the notes of a bassline.

Bass Exercise #3: Octaves on C-G-Am-F

Here is another example of adding octaves to the root note of each chord. You can get a lot of mileage with this simple idea. Change the rhythm and you will have a different bassline.
