Bass Exercises: The Flying Fingers Problem
The Flying Fingers Problem Exercises
Bass Exercise #1: 4th Finger Control
Play the first note with your 4th finger. Hold that note and make sure it rings for the entire 4 beats. Play the other 3 notes with fingers 1, 2 and 3 on the D-string.
Bass Exercise #2: 3rd Finger Control
Like the first exercise, play and hold the F# with your 3rd finger for the entire bar. You will have to arch your 4th finger to keep from muting the G-string.
Bass Exercise #3: 2nd Finger Control
Fret and sustain the F on the G-string with your 2nd finger. Again, keep fingers 3 and 4 from touching the G-string as you play the notes on the D-string.
Bass Exercise #4: 1st Finger Control
Finally, sustain a note with your 1st finger, and play with fingers 2, 3, and 4 on the next string.
