One Octave Natural Minor Scale Exercises
Bass Exercise #1: One Octave G Natural Minor Scale
You should practice this natural minor scale fingering in all areas of the fretboard. It can be started on the E-string or A-string. Be sure to reach all the way to the fret with your pinky to avoid buzzing. I gave you a 4 beat countoff. Practice with your metronome.
Bass Exercise #2: Natural Minor Scale Rock Riff
The natural minor scale can be found in all styles of music. With its darker, sadder sound, the natural minor scale works well for creating heavy rock riffs like this example.
Bass Exercise #3: The Barber of Seville
If you're not familiar with opera, you've at least heard this melody in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. This is the beginning of the familiar theme to Rossini's Barber of Seville. Many melodies revolve around the notes of the natural minor scale. Adjust your fingering for the open strings. You can just use fingers 1 and 2.
