One Octave Dominant 7th Exercises
Bass Exercise #1: Chromatic Dominant 7ths
As with previous patterns, try playing the dominant 7th arpeggio up and down the fretboard chromatically. In the example I play from G7 to C7 and back down. Do it on the A-string, too!
Bass Exercise #2: G7 C7 Bassline
The bassline in this example simply outlines the notes of each chord.
Bass Exercise #3: C7 F7 Bassline
This bassline also outlines the notes of each dominant 7th chord. You can mix the notes up however you want. Notice the F7 pattern uses an open string. Adjust your fingering. 1st finger on 1st fret.
Bass Exercise #4: A7 D7 Rock Bassline
You will encounter 7th chords in rock tunes a lot. Once again you can create effective basslines just by outlining the chord tones.
Bass Exercise #5: Ab7 Db7 Groove
In this line you start on the high root note of each chord pattern and walk down. Notice the last 2 notes are not in the chord but are used to smoothly connect to the beginning.
